Spielberg and the MPAA
IESB.net posted an interview with Shia LaBeouf (Spike) where he indicated that the MPAA gave Transformers a R-rating due to intense action and violence. After an intervention from Spielberg it was changed to PG-13. Ironic though if you ever got the chance to watch the documentary "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" (consider it an R so not for children) which showed how the MPAA tends to be more lenient and open for big name directors and the studio films but indifferent or downright belligerent to independent films.
Regardless, it is good news for Transfans and it shows that its always good to have a big name producer helping with a film to provide that extra grease you need at the right time. Since Spielberg related films rarely have a commentary track for DVDs, I hope this one will be exception as I wouldn't mind knowing what scenes where considered enough for an 'R' rating. Sadly the MPAA discourages any transparency so not holding my breath on that happening.

Irónico si conseguiste la ocasión de mirar el documental (preview) “esta película sin embargo todavía no esta todavía clasificada” (considerarla R es no apta para los niños) esto demostró cómo el MPAA tiende a estar más clemente y abierto para los directores "de renombre" y las películas de estudio pero tiene beligerancia e indiferencia o malaleche a las películas independientes. Cueste lo que cueste, es buenas noticias para los Transfans y demuestra que siempre es bueno tener un productor con gran cartel ayuda con una película a proporcionar que la vaselina extra que necesitas en el derecho de tiempo. Puesto que las películas relacionadas a Spielberg tienen raramente un track en el comentario para DVDs, espero que ésta sea la excepción pues no importaría el saber en qué escenas es considerado "no apta" para un grado de “R”. El MPAA tristemente desalienta cualquier transparencia que se lleve a cabo esto no me quita la respiración.

Time magazine has sportsbook a big interview with MPAA CEO Dan Glickman and Ratings Administration chairman Joan Graves to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the American movie rating system. (Its birthday is tomorrow, and it would prefer it if you didn't bet nfl mention its age.) We suggest celebrating by viewing This Film is Not Yet Rated or controversial titles like the timely American Psycho, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, or the Kevin Smith Appeals Trio: Clerks, sportsbook the highly-underrated Jersey Girl or Zack & Miri Make A Porno (in a theater near you). Then discuss whether the system works or is, as some might say, completely and totally unfair and arbitrary. Anyways, in the Q&A, which we were alerted to by Variety's Hollywood's Aggregated Links (HAL) Web site, Kevin Smith pal Joan Graves says she'd love it if Steven Spielberg made an NC-17 film, http://www.enterbet.com because apparently it's ok for Spielberg to make a dirty movie.
